Delaware's state bird is the domestic Blue Hen chicken. Grey-blue and dark blue feathers stand out vividly against the bright red comb and wattles of the male chicken or cock. The breed dates back to the American Revolution where it became famous for its fierceness in cockfighting. Cockfighting is now illegal and considered inhumane.
