Rhode Island's state bird is a domestic breed of chicken. The breed was actually developed in Rhode Island by a local farmer and has enjoyed an excellent reputation for the last century or more. Today, the breed is popular throughout much of the world. The male, or cock, is bigger than the hen and has bright red head feathers and green-blue tail feathers.
